Andrea Masala ha una laurea triennale in storia dell’arte all’Università di Pisa, ottenuta successivamente a un anno di mobilità estera alla University of Leicester. Consegue poi una laurea magistrale all’Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, dove discute una tesi sulla Border Art statunitense-messicana, realizzata a seguito di un periodo semestrale di ricerca presso la San Diego State University. Attualmente è Dottorando all’Università di Genova, dove conduce — in co-tutela con l’Université Grenoble Alpes e UMR PACTE - Laboratoire de Sciences Sociales — una tesi di ricerca interdisciplinare, tra arte contemporanea e geografia, sulla Border Art Russo-Norvegese. È stato, per questo, visiting researcher presso la UIT The Arctic University of Norway. Un progetto di ricerca parallelo lo ha visto ricoprire lo stesso ruolo nel 2023 presso la Ben Gurion University of the Negev. I suoi principali interessi di ricerca riguardano i border studies e la cultura visuale relativa ai limiti geo-politici e internazionali.

Andrea Masala gained a bachelor’s degree in art history at the University of Pisa, spending one year of abroad mobility at the University of Leicester. He then specialized in contemporary art history at the University of Venice Ca’ Foscari, where he discussed his master’s degree thesis, entitled T/HERE Border Art in San Diego and Tijuana (1970-2005), resulting from a research period at the San Diego State University. Since 2020, he is a cotutelle PhD Candidate at the University of Genova and Université Grenoble Alpes, where he conduces, together with PACTE Laboratoire de Sciences Sociales, an interdisciplinary PhD research in contemporary art history and geography. His current thesis deals with the Norwegian/Russian Border Art, and, in the frame of this project, he was visiting researcher at the UIT The Arctic University of Norway in 2022. A lateral project related to the Israeli/Palestinian Border Art saw him covering the same role at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in 2023.
