Emma Wilson is Professor of French Literature and the Visual Arts at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Corpus Christi College. Her book, The Reclining Nude: Agnes Varda, Catherine Breillat, and Nan Goldin, from which this essay is exerted, was published in 2019. She has included discussion of the films of Agnès Varda in Love, Mortality and the Moving Image (2012) and will do again in the new project she is working on, Maternal Eroticism. She also writes on Italian cinema and has published essays on films by Alina Marazzi, Nanni Moretti, and Gianfranco Rosi.
