Philip Auslander

Philip Auslander is Professor of Performance Studies and Popular Musicology in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Auslander’s primary research interest is in performance, especially in relation to art, music, media, and technology. He has written on aesthetic and cultural performances as diverse as theatre, film acting, performance art, music, stand-up comedy, robotic performance, and courtroom procedures. In 2023, Auslander published the third edition of his Liveness: Performance in a Mediatized Culture (Routledge). Other recent books include In Concert: Performing Musical Persona (University of Michigan Press, 2021) and Reactivations: Essays on Performance and Its Documentation (University of Michigan Press, 2018). The working title of his current project is Repetitions: Performance Art in the 21st Century.
