Luigia Lonardelli

Luigia Lonardelli (Bari, 1982) is curator at MAXXI-National Museum of 21st Century Arts where she has been working since 2010, and she has curated exhibitions by Marisa Merz, Alighiero Boetti and Maria Lai, among others. Her first book, entitled Dalla sperimentazione alla crisi. Gli Incontri Internazionali d’Arte a Roma, 1970-1981 (2016), studies the activity of a nonprofit space within the historical and artistic environment that characterized Rome during the 1970s. Her research focuses on the dynamics of post-war cultural production, with a specific emphasis on the 1960s and 1970s and the Italian context, considered as a privileged setting for the historical-social changes of those years. The history of exhibitions and the relationship between the market and artistic research are among the key points to which she has recently directed her attention, focusing on the relationship between the interpretation of the work and the accreditation and self-narration dynamics of the artist.
